Irans Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says the recent uptick in military moves in the region can worsen the situation and destroy the path to peace.
Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a Thursday meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, in Tehran during which the two sides discussed bilateral ties as well as the most important regional developments.
Pointing to the pace of regional and international developments, Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need for closer consultations between Iran and Qatar alongside efforts to establish peace and stability in Yemen and Afghanistan.
Touching on regional developments, Irans top diplomat said, "In recent weeks, we have witnessed an increase in military moves regarding Yemen, and such moves will lead to outbreak of further wars in Yemen and the region, and destroy the path to peace."
The Qatari foreign minister, for his part, expressed concern about the escalation of new tensions in the region, saying, "We believe that there is no military solution to the Yemeni crisis. They must reach a solution through dialogue and that the current situation does not serve the interests of either side."
On Tuesday, the two foreign ministers discussed matters of mutual interest in a phone call, stressing the need to bolster the role of diplomacy and dialogue in the resolution of certain important regional issues.
Current issues and ongoing developments in the region as well as the continuation of consultations between the two countries on maintaining and ensuring peace and stability in the regional and global arena were among the topics discussed in the two diplomats phone conversation.
The foreign ministers of Iran and Qatar also discussed and exchanged views on the further development of bilateral relations between the two countries in various political, economic and cultural fields.
